Seniors: Stay Up-to-Date with 2023 Medicare Changes!

Article was written by Aslan Gurbanov

As seniors approach the golden age of retirement, Medicare becomes an essential lifeline for their healthcare needs. Each year, the federal government evaluates Medicare and makes adjustments accordingly - and 2023 will be no different with potential changes looming on the horizon.

Approximately one out of every five Americans relies on Medicare for healthcare coverage, with more than 61 million seniors aged 65 and over taking advantage of this essential government program. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident who has been living in the U.S. for a minimum of five years.

Discover the four crucial components of Medicare coverage revealed in this article!

When you reach retirement age, you're eligible for free hospital insurance coverage that takes care of hospital stays, nursing care, and hospice services! However, it's important to keep in mind that there are certain restrictions to consider.

This robust medical coverage is here for you when you need it most. From doctor visits and lab tests to medical equipment, you can trust this plan to take care of your essential medical costs. Applying is easy, and you can start taking advantage of its benefits with just a few monthly payments and any applicable deductibles.

Original Medicare doesn't cover dental and vision services, but you can get these benefits and more with a Medicare Advantage policy from a private insurer. Not only will you get coverage for your eyes and teeth, you'll also get extra perks, all while being monitored by the government.

Don't let Medicare leave you paying the whole bill for your prescription drugs! A supplemental policy from a private insurance company can help cover the remaining expenses so you don't have to.

Part A

Enrollees can reap the benefits of free Part A coverage in 2023, but be aware that a deductible of $1,600 will apply to the first 60 days of hospital inpatient care per benefit period. After those first 60 days, an enrollee must pay a daily co-insurance of $400 per day for days 61 through 90.

If you're receiving nursing care at a facility, your Part A deductible covers the first 20 days. After that, you'll be responsible for a higher coinsurance fee of $200, which is up from its 2022 rate of $194.50, from day 21 through day 100.

Part B

It's official: Medicare Part B premiums are decreasing in 2023! After a decade of increasing prices, the monthly premium will be reduced from $170.10 to $164.90, and the deductible from $233 to $226. This is a long-awaited victory for all enrolled in Medicare Part B!

The Part B surcharge threshold is set to increase again in 2023 for Medicare beneficiaries with higher incomes, potentially costing them an extra $230.80 to $560.50 each month. Individuals filing singly may be charged up to $97,000 and couples filing jointly up to $194,000.

Medicare Advantage

Enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan? Rejoice! The government has your back in 2022 and 2023, capping out-of-pocket expenses at $7,550 for the former and increasing them to $8,300 for the latter. And if that wasn't enough, many plans will give you even more cost-savings benefits—all at a rate that's determined by private insurance companies.

Part D (Medication)

Starting in 2023, you won't want to miss out on the incredible savings of the standard plan's maximum deductible of $505! Once you've reached the threshold of $7,400, you'll be able to take advantage of the reduced out-of-pocket costs of the catastrophic coverage phase. Plus, with the Inflation Reduction Act, all your covered vaccines will be free and you can get your insulin for a mere $35/month!

Kidney Transplant Patients

Starting in 2023, kidney transplant recipients can find relief in the knowledge that their Medicare coverage won't reach its limit after 36 months. Thanks to Medicare Part B, they can keep obtaining the immunosuppressive drugs they need to maintain the success of their transplant and enjoy a healthy, flourishing life.

Start Date Changes for New Enrolees

If you turn 65 in 2023, you can get your coverage up and running in only a month! Simply sign up by your 65th birthday or the three months after and you're good to go - that's a huge improvement compared to the old system that had you waiting three months before receiving coverage.
