How Seniors Are Receiving Medicare Covered Cleaning Services
Medicare is a national Federal program that provides essential medical care and services to our nation's senior citizens over 65. With an array of coverage options, Medicare Parts A and B provide an array of medical services, while Part C may even include house cleaning services to help keep our elderly loved ones safe and healthy.
As seniors age, they often find it difficult to keep their home clean by themselves – especially those who are ill or infirm. Unfortunately, in the past, Medicare's traditional A and B coverage excluded many services, such as dental and vision, that seniors were looking for. Thankfully, Medicare has introduced a new “Part C” coverage which, in some cases, will cover house cleaning services.

Medicare and Limited Housekeeping Services
Original Medicare (A and B) can offer limited and temporary assistance with housekeeping for those who need in-home care after an accepted surgical procedure or injury. A home care provider can be provided by Medicare for a short period of time and is usually allowed to do basic housekeeping tasks like washing dishes, doing some laundry, and clearing tables. However, more intense housekeeping duties such as scrubbing bathrooms, vacuuming, and cleaning windows are not included in Medicare A or B.
Part C "Medicare Advantage" Plans and House Cleaning Services
Discover the additional services now available to Medicare patients through Medicare (Part C) Advantage Plans! With these plans, you can get expanded coverage that may include dental, vision, and drug coverage, as well as limited house cleaning services. Explore the range of plans available to find the one that best suits your needs.
If you suffer from chronic asthma or other respiratory issues, periodic house cleaning may be covered. This includes dusting, rug cleaning, drape cleaning, washing of bedding, and vacuuming. Similarly, if you have an immunity deficiency condition, disinfectant cleaning services may be covered. But please note that this is only on a periodic basis, not regularly.
No matter what, right now, not even an Advantage plan will provide coverage for routine, comprehensive house cleaning services.
Possible Expansion Of Medicare Advantage's (Part C) Coverage
Many Medicare Advantage plans offer in-home caregiving services that are designed to help patients with their everyday needs; from helping them get around, to ensuring they take their medications and treatments, to assisting with meals and dressing. Caregivers may also help with some basic housekeeping, like washing dishes and tidying up, but not full house cleaning.
It is possible that some of these Advantage plans could soon provide coverage for more regular and general house cleaning services, especially for those who are infirm, disabled, or chronically ill.
Differences Between House-Cleaning and Home-Care Services Under Original Medicare
